Maksut Çeki (Mexsûdê Cekolî, 1910–1970) was a poet and dengbêj from the Torpaşt village near Kangal, Sivas, who composed original works in both Kurdish and Turkish while also preserving regional folk repertoire. His work reflects the Kızılbaş-Alevi cultural heritage of the Koçgiri region, spanning devotional forms accompanied by tembur — gülbeng, deyiş, mersiye — as well as Kurdish kılams rich in oral history. His recordings, largely preserved on reel-to-reel tapes made by relatives returning from work in Germany in the late 1960s, remained scattered in private archives for decades. This project gathers them for the first time, bringing 20 previously unknown works to light. Despite his significance, Çeki has been largely absent from scholarship on Kızılbaş-Alevi and Kurdish music — this release aims to correct that gap and finally give him his due recognition.
